hey fellas, got some allen bradley resistors today at an auction. 5% tol. 1 watt 5600ohms. Will they work on the 12 volt conversions. thanks, brad

This assumes you mean for use in GM 10 SI 3 wire alternator set ups to prevent ingition run on plus excite the alternator??????

Thats probably (not for sure, my best guess) too much resistance, if so the alternator may fail to excite as desired. That can also happen if you use an LED versus a more correct 94 incandescent marker lamp for an idiot light non charge indicator.

I suggest at least 10 ohms, maybe up to the 47 ohms range myself resistor instead of a diode, because the resistor can offer more safety current limiting protection, or else use a small incandescent idiot lamp, cuz it has the safety current limiting PLUS serves the idiot light purpose to identify non charging. OR DO AS BOB M SUGGESTED put a resistor in paralell with the idiot light so theres still current limiting protection plus the necessary alternator excitation in case the lamp burns out SOUNDS LIKE A WIN WIN BEST CASE SCENARIO

Dont get me wrong a diode will work, I just prefer a resistor or idiot light (incandescent NOT LED) or light in paralell with Resistor as noted by Bob M for the added current limiting protection.

If I missed anything hopefully the other fine gents will add to this

Well, are you ready.........for a S.A. answer?

About 9 of them in parallel might make a good alternator 'excite' resistor (quite a wad).

Then about 12 or 13 in parallel might make a decent ballast resistor (an even bigger wad). But this wad might smoke as it good for only 12 or 13 watts and a ballast could see perhaps 16 watts under ign ON, engine stalled conditions. But, don't stall it & leave it on!

Oh, oh, I was too quick on that! Correction coming! Calculator must have made a mistake!! Standby.
OK, change that 9 to 512.

Change that 12 or 13 to 4096 or 8192 respectively.

And those are really big 'wads'. Hope you bought in bulk.

AND, I think you will be A-OK on power....no smoke.

the reason i ask is because i got 350 of them plus some other fine treasures in a box deal well worth the money the other junk is some odd and end stuff i could use. i got about 20 lbs. of $hip for a buck.
