Farmall C Touch-Control Hydraulic Problem

I have been restoring a Farmall C and am now working on the Touch-Control Hydraulic system. Here is the problem; When I move the Rt. touch-control lever forward, the outer Rockshaft arms move forward as expected, but when I move the Rt. touch-control lever back (toward the driver), the outer Rockshaft arms do not move back (as they should). I AM able to move the outer Rockshaft arms back by moving the left touch-control lever forward which moves the inner Rockshaft arms forward and then, at the end of their forward movement, will move the outer Rockshaft arms back.

The same thing happens with the inner Rockshaft arms - when the left control lever is moved forward, the inner arms will move forward but the only way to get them to move back is to move the right touch-control lever forward which will, again, move the outer arms forward and at the end of their movement, move the inner arms back. I"ve taken the complete hydraulic system apart 3-4 times, have replaced the "pressure regulator valve piston", replaced the pump, and have made numerous adjustments to the stop clips. I have also purchased the Touch-Control Serviceman"s Handbook, GSS-1024, but have had no luck resolving the problem.

Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Russ,

Do you have the unit filled with hydraulic fluid? What does it sound like? Is there any air lock, have you purged the system of air? Did you replace all the "O" Rings, and if so did you use silicone release agent? Did the "O" Rings go on easy without any nicks or cuts? Hope this helps!

Bob,

Thank you for your reply. The unit is filled with fluid and I purged the system of any air. The fluid retains it"s level so I don"t believe there are any leaks. I"ve replaced the "O" Rings on the main piston after dipping them in hydraulic fluid. I had no problem installing them and don"t believe there are any nicks.

I also replaced the "O" Rings on the control valves but was unable to determine from the Serviceman"s Handbook, GSS-1024, how many "O" Rings should be on the control valve. I believe there are about 4-5 grooves on each control valve where "O" Rings could be but I"m not sure each groove actually should have an "O" Ring.

I have not replaced any "O" Rings on the "check valve actuators" because I wasn"t sure how to remove them.

Hi Russ,

Haaa! "O" Rings on the directional valves? I don't think so! Check your parts manual and I will do the same, but I am sure there isn't any "O" Rings on those.

Hi Russ,

I just checked my parts manual. The "O" Rings are called seals, and it doesn't actually show them on or in the groves. Are you sure you replaced everything back the way it came off? There is a Front Check Valve, and a Rear Check Valve. It has been a long time since I had mine apart So I may not be much help. Hopefully some here will spread a little more light on this.
