806 thermostat

I know its Monday, but I just received a new thermostat I ordered from this web site today and I can look right through it. It is a brass thing with a spring on one end and looks like a steering wheel on the other end with a thread sticking out. Is there a piece missing?? My old one doesn't look anything like this.

Are you talking gasoline or diesel, sounds like your new one is the type used in a diesel engine and if you had an automotive style like used in a gas in a diesel the by pass system would not work. Note, the diesel also has a seal in the housing.

Its a gas engine. It looks like the coolant would just run right through it. The housing is straight through and has no machining where any kind of seal would go. The old one was like a car would use, except the flapper would rotate like a throttle plate to open instead of up & down like a car would.

You have wrong new one, get one for gas engine.
