I just bought a 1948 MV. It was converted to LP in 1965 by IH. It has the two point hydraulic lift on it. Everything is there except the original seat, Mechanically it's perfect and doesn't smoke, pto and hydraulics work also. The mag was replaced with a points distributor and the geneartor does not charge. The seller gave me the original mag. It's also electric start. The sheet metal is in good, original paint, shape. I paid $1000 for it. Too much? or a good buy?

Sounds like a pretty good deal for a running cane tractor. But it's kinda like an old man told me, if one guy sold it and another bought it that's exactly what it was worth that day.

I am not a price expert, but I would think that almost any tractor that is in good mechanical shape would be worth at least 1000. Is an MV like an M only differnt (front wheels etc.) Ray A

Ray, an MV is the high crop version of an M (drop down axles front and rear). I think they are far more scarce than an M. This tractor is over 7 feet tall at the hood.

seems to me you did well. Next time ask before you buy.
Your tractor has some collector value, plus the fact that it's a good running unit.
good luck

I would have bought either way. I don't carry a lap top with me and internet access. It was a one chance deal to get this tractor. Just wanted to see if any one knew what these tractors are worth. I'll try the other discussion boards.

From what I have seen high crops go for, you stole it. I would love to have an High crop of the A or super A. Don't see any high crops of anything much in South West MO.

Thanks, I appreceiate the good feedback. I accidentally fell upon this tractor. Took the scenic route while looking for case LP parts and saw this next to a garden. I stopped and asked the old man (81 years old)if I couyld look at it. He asked if I would be interested in buying it and I was certainly game. I pulled the battery out of my truck , put it on the tractor and it fired rightup. He said it was too tall for him to crawl up on and he was only using his allis now for the garden. He had farmed sugar cane all of his life and had plenty of stories to tell. He was in good shape and looked like he was 60 years old. He had rolled the MV over turning too quickly about 45 years ago and his foot was pinned under the lp tank for about 6 hours. That was quite a story. I still drop by occassionally to here his stories.
