Hi. I have a Super A that leaks about 1 pint of oil out of the base of the Steering Reservoir every time I use the tractor. I have tightened all the bolts but it still leaks(at the seam). Is there a gasket or seal I can purchase and repair this myself? Or is there a better way. To the best of my knowledge there is no broken or cracked metal.

there is a gasket between the two halves that you can still get from IH bout five bucks here in tenn. thats the easy part you must take the whole front end plus radiator off . pretty good job for one person

Thank you Big John. It sounds like quite a lot of work. I may opt for putting a grease fitting on the unit.

A lot of the guys have quit trying to use gear lube because it is so hard to keep the steering gear housing from leaking. Instead they fill the housing with gun grease. This works well unless you use your tractor in very, very cold conditions and then it might be a little stiff.

That is what I use John, put a grease fitting in oil level hole just under steering shaft. I put a full tube grease initially and since that I give it a few shots every time I grease tractor. Works very well and no more mess. You have to get resovoir full of grease, as grease will not necessarily go to gears unless it has nowhere else to go. I live in cold climate, it is not bad.

Thank you Hugh. I will put a grease fitting on and fill with grease. This appears to be the easiest fix and still provide needed lubrication.

I put the grease fitting(zerk) and loaded it with grease. Works like a charm!!! The CIH dealer had a grease fitting that fit the level check plug...Thank all of you guys for your posts... You saved me lots of headaches!
