My M is making a thumping sound that appears to be coming from the transmission, it's hard to tell when in motion. It does'nt do it all the time, but more noticeable when not pulling equipment, opposed to being under a heavy load, ie:pulling a disk or plow. Any idea what this noise is and what I can do about it? Thanks so much.

My M did this while in idle. Found out it was the clutch. I never could hear it while driving, but when in netral, I could. I have a mechanic on hand to fix the tractors. He adjusted the clutch or something, and it quit.

Once you have checked all the obvious things, like loose bolts, you should take it for a test drive. Does the noise happen in all gears or just one? How about when the pto is engaged? Does go away with the application of the left or right brake? Worse case, it is a chipped gear, or a shot bearing on in the transmisson. Not a big deal, but you should remove the transmission deck(what you and your feet sit on) and check out the gears. Jack up the rear wheels of the tractor so you can spin all the gears to check them. Let us know what you find. Repair parts are not too expensive. Time and labor is.

Check the rear wheel lug bolts too. My 300 acted similar to you M on hillsides and when going changing from forward to reverse direction. FWIW

Had a similar problem with an MTA. Check the front wheel lugs and make certain they are tight.
I had some slippage that created that thumping sound. Good Luck.

you need to either fix the flat tire or tighten up the tire chains so they quit hiting the fender or some other part of the tractor
