A guy wants to sell his dad's farmall cub. He does not know what to ask for it. It is about a 1950 model and the sheet metal is in decent shape. It runs ok. It has a sickle bar mower and a plow with it. I just recently started collecting farmall tractors and unfortunatly do not know what a good price is. He told me to make an offer but I do not want to steal it from him. I will restore it to its original condition, eventually when I find time. I told him I was going to ask you guys first. I hope you can help. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Jim

Jim: Andy, James, Hugh are on target. There's a protocol issue here. In a private transaction, the seller -- if he really wants to be a seller -- has the initial obligation. If he passes off on that, the whole thing gets turned around and both of you will start out uneasy,... and one of you will end up unhappy! With due repect, your seller needs to do his own homework. It just works better that way. RedTed/MO.

Ted: better mark this one on wall, five people in a row all agreed, Jim, Andy, James, Hugh and Ted. Must be almost a first at YT. Getting awful agreeable in our older age Ted. Do you also notice Ted how @#$%^& guys disappeared as we got away from FULL MOON. They will be back in 2.5 weeks. Hugh

Andy and James are right, when it doesn't have a price on it, it isn't really for sale. When this happens to me, I just walk away, doesn't matter what the commodity is. The seller of the Cub will gain more from this posted question than you.

I like Andy's approach. Just talk to the guy and ask him to set the price and go from there. I'm sure the owner has a figure in mind.

just offer 800 see what he says because for all you know you might hafta rebuild the engine 2 days after you get it just feel him out he already knows what he wants he just won't tell you cause you might offer more than he wants so he is playing stupid which you should. a tractor is worth what you want to give for it i've seen a 1500$ cub with a belly mower go for 2400$ at action cause the guy wanted it and was willing to pay that for it so just offer 800 and feel him out hope that helps let us know what happens

I never price something that belongs to someone else.Tell him to set the price and go from there.I always felt if I under priced it I was insulting him. If he prices it, it may be a bargain.

Watched two Cubs sell today at an auction in KCK (Eastern Kansas). One with a sickel bar mower (half on half off) good paint and tires, needed battery, $1350. Second one with mid mount cullivator. Had had top end overhaul a year ago. Fair paint, fair tin, rear weights, mag, no battery or lights, tires not matched. $2000.

Jim I have seen Cubs sell at about any price from the cuteness factor. Anywhere from $1,000-2,500 from your description.

I would not expect to get something like that for less than $2000 around here (NH) and maybe as much as $3000.
