It's about time for another photo from the past. This is my mother Rose, standing between our '65 706 G and '65 656 G. It was a muddy February thaw, 1969, when this photo was taken. This was our main horsepower then, the 1256 was later that year. Mom was 32 in this photo. Buy the way, how about that 4 year old original IH paint on the 706? Don't see any like that anymore. That is a Hinson Cab on the 706 and a gray IH windbreaker on the 656. As I recall Dad was getting itchy feet and cabin fever that day, had the tractors out and was thinking it was time to start getting ready for corn planting!!! I would have been a sophomore in high school at that time.

We had a round fender 706D-1965 vintage that took the place of the SM. Talked dad into a new IH rear mount cultivator too, the one with one set of standards between the row instead of two. Ran it hard that summer as he had picked up another 320 acres and needed me to stay home. No cab, no unbrella, just plenty of sun.

Always interesting to see the photos from the past. Your Mom at 32 and you a high school sophomore would mean your Mom was a very young Mom when you were born! I have been thinking of putting some photos up here that are from the 1950s in North Dakota, but haven't taken the time yet. I live in the country and have an old slow rural telephone line (narrow bandwidth for the teckys types-I'm an electronics engineer-) and it is very slow sending graphics to the internet or as email attachments.

I use my 706-G almost every day. Equiped with a F-11 loader it is handier than a pocket in a shirt. Being gas makes it an easy starter in the winter months. With a cube feeder mounted on the back it can't be beat for a feeding tractor.

JD, That's a nice old photo. Why don't you add it to Kim's new Vintage Photos page so everyone will see it, not just us Farmallers. I know it's not black and white, but it looks vintage enough to me!

Nice picture JD but I can't help but notice the look on your moms face.My mother has the same look in almost all of the old photo's.In questioning her about it once she told me it was because it always took my father 20 minutes to get the camera in focus.

Wow, I wish my tractors looked that sharp, I suppose they did once upon a time. Which one was your favorite?

I liked both of them real well, but the 706 was my favorite, it was almost a big tractor at that time period.

Almost a big tractor? J.D. here in Central PA a "Big" tractor is a 560! I guess a 706 here would be like your Dad's 1456- BIG RED POWER!!
