I have recently purchased a 1950 Farmall H to restore. It's my first restoration project and I have (2) oil leaks that plague me.

The first seems to be comming from the upper bolster where the pivot enters the oil resevoir (where the steering worm gear is located). Is there a bearing or seal that can easily be replaced?

The second is appears to be comming from the area around the belly pump. I'm not sure what I'll be getting into in fixing this. Are they easy to service and is there a good reproduction manual on servicing this area?

Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your patience as I progress with my new (old) tractor.

Jeff I too have a 1950 Farmall H.I had 2 leaks ,one on the oil pan which a trip to the Case IH dealer and 10 bucks for a new gasket fixed. The other on the belly pump. The H had been setting outside and rained on for who knows how long.I drained the pump and filled it back up no more leaks. The problem was rain water in it over filling it.I`m lucky that I work in a machine shop and have made many of my own parts such as hand crank, belly pump operating rod, latchs for the hood that look like factory,PTO sheild, swing bar and much more. Some things you can buy some you can`t I like making them for myself and some friends that have farmalls. If you need something else let me know.

You can pull the clutch cover on the bottom of the housing, run the tractor in neutral, crawl under and possibly see where the leak is if it's constant. In the clutch housing are it could be the seal on the belly pump if you are leaking motor oil (that is what should be in the belly pump). If you are leaking gear lube one of the seals on the front of the transmission are leaking. If you tear into it to chang one seal, change all 3 while you are there. Not too bad a job. Get an I&T manual. It can guide you through the job, along with all the others you may tackle. Everybody here is fantastic about helping. There is also a lot in the archives on this and how to do it. Jeff, there are a number of possibilities for the oil around the belly pump. It can be the pump or the seals on the shaft that drive the pump, also oil could be coming from the brake drum seals and running down into that area. I have an H that I picked up last year and I have done most all the seals around the rear, brake, PTO, axle..but its the best tractor now and it wasn't that hard or that expensive..good luck and give me a shout if you need more help..lots of H guys out here to help..Mike in Exeter Ontario
