I can find very little information on the subject of torque amplifiers online. Who makes the best replacement? What can I expect to pay to have the unit replaced? Is rebuilding the old one a reasonable option? I would like any information on this subject that anyone will share with me. Many Thanks, Steve O.

We are replacing the TA in our 3288 with the mechanical diode type right now. The mechanic doing the work recommended that type over the standard TA as did both CIH dealers that I priced the unit with. Price for the TA unit only was $838 with core exchange. It's a little discouraging to read some of these posts saying the diode type TA won't hold up after I've already bought one. I guess time will tell.

The first sign of it going south on ya will be that you are having a hard time getting it out of gear , and you can make all the adjustments you want and it won't help , been there and done that i hate doing a job over for free so that is why i only use Hy Capaticty T/A's never had a failure in 18 years.

A good T/A will cost you between 650-750and while you are in there might as well replace the clutch and rebuild the MCV and check the MCV pump and more then likely it will need a PTO input shaft and bearing , there may be some other parts that my need replacing after ya open it up . As far as what the whole job will cost that dependes on who does it you may need your NITRO pills . And as far as them DIODE T/A's they are junk .

I recommend having a new TA installed. We put a new mechanical diode TA in our 1086 and it works better than the old one ever did, IMHO. I don't remember what the TA cost to have replaced because we had some tranny and clutch work done at the same time, oh yeah, that was when we had the motor gone through also.

Give the diode a little time it will go out.
