I am considering buying a 350 w/a widefront. I know it originally was a narrow front, then a wide put on. How do I know if it is an IH or another brand? What is the difference in appearance? Thanks for the info.

I have a Schwartz front end on my 450 and it is pretty stout. The tie rods are behind the axle/cross member. The vertical piece that holds the spindles have splines on them, not just one keyway. It comes down to what you want.

Will be hard to find a wfa that is IH, lots of aftermarket axles sold for this tractor, Schwartz being the most common and cheaper, now made by A & I. They are a welded/fabricated of steel type, had spindles made exactly to fit your wheels/hubs original equipment, you can also get them with 6 bolt disc wheel style, but you have to buy new wheels. F350 was mostly sold in midwest tricycle type for row crop use. Easy to spot a IH, has cast iron bolster, cast back stay rod (u-shaped) bracket and socket.

I can safely say you havent a clue to what you are saying, I have been around these all my life there was no comparision between quality of IH over SCHWARTZ/A&I wfa, particularly later IH were made of high strength steel compared to any other replacement or conversion aftermarket wfa. I worked at a IH dealer 60/85. The Schwartz was originally designed for M/560 then they put the same thing on 706/4010/etc, overloaded the heck out of it. They had a HD model but it was only slightly better, no diff in cross tube and steering, had heavier spindle diameter only.

The 706 & 806 had better front axle but the 350 did not. Then enter the 66 series with absolute junk front ends. So many parts to wear. Always called my 1066 the road weaver. Bought a 7050 AC and have been sold on them ever since. I also worked at a CaseIH dealer and IH didn't start to get their act together until the 5088 series and even then they had lots of bugs in the tranny but did fix the problem.

Dont think we are talking about quite the same thing, the IH wfa for 350 was the same as 560/706, look in 350 parts book, I am stating that the parts carrying the load were stronger than aftermarket, would agree about the wobbly 66/86/88 early type, but this was not the load strength problem, was too small linkage for steering, such as cyl anchors & pivots. Worst of all I am still at Case-IH after all this time. Now the name of the product this week is CNH.

I'll take your word for it. Must be earlier super M axle that I was thinking of.

Probably the easiest way to tell is the IH has a cast center bracket, the front axle pivot pin goes through this casting that mounts to the tractor bolster below the radiator. The Schwartz and other off brands I have seen have no castings, all is fabricated with a welder.

The tie rods are different too. The IH front end has smaller, solid tie rods, while the Swartz has tubular tie rods which are bigger in diamiter, at least they were like this on our 706, which originaly had a narrow front end, then an off-brand wide front, then a Swartz, and now an IH wide front.

The Swartz's wishbone is welded to the axle tube. Where the IH wishbone has nuts on the end of them and are run through tubes that are welded to the axle.
