I went back and looked at the "Super" H again today and went over it a little more thorough. It turns out to be a regular H, a '51 I think. I was not sure about all the differences so I checked my books and this site to confirm it is just an H. Now for some stupid questions - do all SUPER H's have the battery box under the seat? I know the SH's have disc brakes but I'm not sure what the housing looks like. Can someone post or send me a pic of the brake pans on a Super H? Are there any other obvious differences other than the those mentioned and the serial #? Thanks a heap!

BTW, we will probably but it anyhow, even though it is not a Super H it is a pretty darn good one! Will post pics after we shake hands on the deal. Keep your powder dry! Fireman

Not all of them do have the battery boxes under the seat.
I am not the guy to ask about the brakes but others will be glade to answer questions.

Thanks everyone for the help and the picture. The serial number confirms this as a 51 H, but like I said it IS a good one and will most likely find its way into my barn. It has been painted and someone put Super H decals on it. We will probably repaint it, since they skimped on some body work and neglected to repair a crack in the hood. It is a pretty good one, and in my experience it is a little unusual to see a tractor that late that is an all fuel. I don't have the numbers to back that up, does anyone else? Thanks again, Fireman

As Guy suggests the early, or "Stage I" Super H tractors have the battery under the gas tank no live pump. Later production "Stage II" tractors moved the battery to beneath the seat and include a live (distributor mounted) pump. Punch below for a photo of an early '53 Stage I Super H with the battery box under the tank. Notice also see the cast iron disk brake cover with the characterstic "button" in the center.

Thanks for the compliment Paul! We indeed enjoy fixing up and using those old red tractors. Did you peek at the pix of the Kenworth 10-wheeler my son and I are messing with now??

Bob, BEUTIFUL H, and nice KW. Looks like a great pair of fun. I understand that CAT didn't make a very strong motor in '79, but they sell replacements, and adapter kits every day. Good luck with your "cum-along".(not trying to start anything, just stating my .02 worth) THANK YOU FOR THE PICTURES BOB....Scoob

The first Super Hs did not have live hydraulics or the battery box under the seat, but did have the larger engine.

Guy, just a quick question; did any Super H's come factory with the battery under the tank AND live hydraulics? Ours has that arrangment, and we always assumed someone added the distributer driven pump after the fact. Also, our distributer sits upright, not facing backwards. Thanks Pete

Pete - Sounds like You have a stage #I SH that had the M&W Live Hyd. kit put on it. I bet the tractor still has the belly pump right? And in order to get room on the short Super H engine the Delco Distributor had to be put on as well, otherwise the distributor cap would be in the same spot as the oil filter. The later Stage #II Super H's had the box-shape hyd. res. under the tank taking up most of the avail room so the battery ended up under the seat. I think the Serial # break was 19226 = last Stage @I, #19227 the first Stage #II. The break was in Oct. '53 think.

All Super H's would have the disk brakes, you can tell the difference because the disk brakes have a cast outer cover while the drums have a tin cover. I believe all the Super H's also had the battery box under the seat because of the live hydralics.

Serial number should be located on the bellhousing or if that one is gone check the number under #1 spark plug on the block.

Steven
