Looking at these two tractors, and wondering witch one to buy. They are booth similarly equiped, and priced the same. Booth look to be in good shape, and compare with eachother in paint, rubber, and condition. I have herd they booth are about the same hp wise , but the G is heavier duty ? The G has a 3 pt on it and that would be usefull, neither have live PTO, they both have a live hyd system. I think they are both 1952 model's also, any advice ?

Terry,

You don't state what you want to do with the tractor. If you just want to run it in parades and show it, the John Deere G will probably attract the most interest. If you are going to use it for a working tractor, the Farmall M is a much more operator friendly tractor. Just my opinion.

If they are the same price, the G is too cheap or the M is too high. If the M is about right - buy the G, sell it elsewhere and then go back and buy the M, hide the extra cash from your better halve and use it for "improvements" later.

Based on what you said about them and if they are priced the same, go with the 'G'. I say this only if the G is in as good a shape as the M and because of the 3ph. That makes it more useful than the Farmall M.

I saw a picture of an "M" painted green. You might try painting a "G" red. I would leave the hand clutch green because I don't like them as well as a foot clutch.

I will only comment on the M since I have no experience with the G. You can get an aftermarket 3 point for it. With regards to abuse, I use Ernie's 2 Ms which are very poorly maintained. They are both still strong runners. Up until this year the Super M was used with a JD 4 row no-till planter for corn and it pulled it without any trouble. In the fall I either pull 2 250 bushel grain hoppers with the M or 3 with the Super M. At night, however, we use the JD4240 which is loaded with extra lights.

Take the M so you can sleep at night and not hear the G hammering in your head.

"Herd" them both into the "booth" and let them fight. Whichever one comes out first is the one you should buy!

You sure picked the right page to get an unbiased opinion. How ever it will probably be one sided. Maybe you should put it on the Green page to. Then you will see all the unbiased opinions on that page. There will also be one sided opinions there also. I not being one sided or biased would say that there must be something wrong with the "G" or it would command a higher price than the "M".

I just love the color green. An Oliver 70 would definitely be the correct choice.

the reason some 60,000 were sold was that wen the farmer went to the harvester dealer all the M,s were sold out. and for the greene paint they did that so they could hide in the field while the red ones did all the work
