I removed the cap, turned on pump, inserted fuel nozzle, pumped 10 gallons, removed nozzle, turned off pump.

What has me baffled is why everyone at the Marathon station was gawking at me? I must have done something incorrectly. Maybe I should not have idled it at 375 while I was pumping. Please help!

After much pondering it came to me, they are trying to see where the cup holders and the cd player are at, also use that wiper on one of those new style smv signs so you don't get rearended...

Next time you need to fuel your tractor, shut off the engine and while it cools, use that windshield cleaner to polish the hood emblem. Then have a soda. Now put fuel in the tractor. We want you around for a long time.

Excellent advice sir. Thank you! I'll try to remember to clean the headlights next time. :)

In all seriousness I was amazed at the number of teens who eye the tractor down everytime I gas it up. My paint job ain't all that great.

A friend of mine recently said that 10 or 15 years ago a farming rig could pull into a store lot and the kids would flock around like an ice cream store, now when he pulls in nobody cares!

I'd say they don't see an "H" on city streets that often so it's some kind of treat or thrill. Also they can't figure how to drive something without a backseat!

Just keep on fuelin and let'm keep on gwaking!!

I left it on so it would be louder than all the other motors that were running there.

I used to enjoy driving my uncle's H about 2 miles up the road to refuel it at a small country store. I'd pull up to the gas pump, shut it off, go in to the store, get a dope, and wait for the H to backfire. Sometimes it would take a minute or two. Pretty loud too. So maybe the on-lookers were just disappointed that you didn't shut it off to see if it would backfire.

2 of my 3 do not backfire. But the 45 likes to diesel after I kill the coil. It might pop along for a good 20 seconds or so. Only does it when its warm.

You should have a ground strap on your tractor to dispel any static electricity as just a little spark in a gas tank can make a big noise. Another thing in the owners manual it tell you to turn engine off when fueling maybe they were watching to see how far you would fly. A tractor that has been restored any color attracts a lot of stares and waves as it is being driven to town or just for a ride. I have a rusty old 42 H that 2 years ago at a show attracted more attention than the shiney RED GREEN YELLOW or ORANGE ones and it was parked away from the crowd waiting to show people what it could pull, by the way that nite it beat a couple shiney ones both RED and GREEN. Maybe more people related to it.

Them "static lines" has done been incorporated into the fuel delivery hose at the pump and provides a ground to dissipate any static charge - PROVIDED that you have the nozzle in contact with the metal rim of the filler on the tank. The biggest hazard in fueling a running vehicle, especially one with the tank directly over the distributor and exhaust manifold is: If you let it run over, or spill some, it runs right down to an ignition source. Then you have to re-paint whats left of your H.

Red - I think you need to convert to Kerosene and pull up to that pump. That would really make the younger generation look. You did skip one step - you forgot to use the windsheild squeegee to clean of the head lights! ;-)

I will make note of that. Maybe I shouldn't have used the windshield washer doodad to clean the metal Farmall emblem on the hood.

Consider yourself very lucky Red.To be able to run to our local town(pop. 500, 10 miles away)we need written permission from local council and that costs $24.00 Aus. per tractor. We took a lot of them in to a street parade over the Easter weekend. If they were'nt Inters you would'nt bother parting with the money.
