I just brought home two H`s I had traded for[ a 1941 and a 1945] I noticed both have metal gear shift knobs with the shift pattern on each. My M and A don`t have these {use rubber knobs] How do you get these off the handle and I assume they are original? Why on these tractors? Thanks Mike

That sounds like an aftermarket to me. All my Hs have rubber knobs.

Red, Like others posted, they are origional equipment on war production tractors. Some that are not worn have IHC moulded into them. A rubber knob can be used as a replacement.

Perhaps because both tractors were built during WWII - metal knobs were substituted to conserve rubber for the war effort?
