I just started my m the other day after sitting for several months. I drove it about 3 miles toward home in 5th gear,it was movin like a champ. Must have been the bouncing it just quit on me. Took the bottom off of the carb and there was a lot of rusty crud in the bowl old gas etc. Cleaned it to the best of my abilities now it will hit like it"s gonna crank but won"t run. how should i fix it? where can i get a good rebuilt one if needed? thanks Brad

Well Brad - if it had been running good and the problem's junk in the carb, remove and disassemble the carb and give the parts a thorough cleaning. Reassemble with a new gasket kit - $25 or so - and you'll be good to go. (Keep in mind the SM carb is very simple and easy to rebuild...)

However BEFORE you get into the carb check your ignition timing! Could be the cam gear hub has broken and messed up the cam/spark timing. It's a common failure on the SM with live hydraulics. And it's consistent with the symptoms you describe. (Correct timing should be within a couple degrees of TDC.)

Another thing to check is flow of gas to carb. might be plugged up in the tank also. There is a riser pipe built into the sediment bowl that helps keep out rust and junk from getting to your carb. have seen these rust off. Brent
