Congrats! I also just picked up my first farmall M a couple of weeks ago. I am learning things quickly and I can't think of a better place to learn than this forum. One suggestion I would make is to buy some manuals. BTW, what year is your M?

You're smart to change everything. You might also want to check the Steering box (my H holds about a pint of 90W, was all but dry when I brought the tractor home). Does the M have an oil bath air cleaner? There's another quart of 30W oil.

Tom, good catches. Plum forgot about that. And I strongly suggest a gasket once you fill the steering box. I found that out real quickly. My box was near empty when I cleaned it out. But the lower seal is holding fine.

My Super M box has grease in it. I figured out why after I filled it with oil. How do you go about putting in the seals. My books don't show anything about it. I have a wide front end. After market I guess.
Thanks,
Mark

The Red's advice is right on. Only suggestion I can add is if your M is still 6 volt, and/or you plan to run it in cold weather, use 10W-30 instead of straight 30 in the engine. Makes it easier to start when it's cold out...

Pat, on the engine 8 quarts of sae 30.
On the transmission 13 GALLONS of either 90W or 85W140.
On the liftall, either a good hydraulic fluid or NON-DETERGENT SAE 30. I think its capacity is around 8 quarts. I don't have the manual at work.

You will prob. get other excellent opinions on this.
