Here is a picture of the fuel tank I just picked up that came off of a Regular. Is the threaded in cap proper on these? What did the starting tank look like?

Dan

All Regulars had threaded caps from the factory. I have seen a lot of them (including mine)with 1/4 turn caps but they apparently have had their tanks replaced. There were a lot of subtle changes and improvments on all the F-series tanks. The early ones on the Regulars must have been prone to cracking and or leaking.

My 29 10-20 had the same cap, and I have seen some other regulars that had it also. There was another style of cap that had finger grips on it but I think those were for earlier...I think my "parts 27" 10-20 has caps like that with the finger grips.

The early f-20s had the treaded cap so it is logical that the Regular did also. Many of the Regulars had "Field Upgrades" such as gear steering. Perhaps some of the fuel tanks were upgraded.

I believe "unforgiven" is wrong. We had a late model regular and it definitely had the threaded fuel cap (like the one in the photo).

That is always a very real possibility!

Not sure, but I think the threaded cap is for a fairly early tractor. The starter tank is about 6 X 12? and stands vertical behind the main tank.
