I agree with Bob. I had the same thing happen to me with a 1960 Chev. 283. I think your plugs maybe too cold of a heat range and then they tend to "carbon" up. For some reason, when you pull the wires off part way, it seems to get a hotter spark??

It does make hotter spark. Champion even makes
a plug for small engines with an internal gap to
boost spark. I had a tractor that always fouled
1 plug so I took a blown glass fuse and put it
inline between the wire and the plug. That kept
it from fouling.
