After many years of waiting to get a Super MD Saturday is the day. Anyway my friend who has the tractor called me to tell me the serial number and it has an ###### then J which is for the rockford clutch then a "D" i looked it up in guy fays book and it shows 5,000 altitude pistons. I dont think theres a kit for a diesel for high altitude?? or does it just mean D= diesel?

Can"t recall if more than one style of serial plate was used on SM. If its the like the late style the D is stamped on a different line than the serial #. On stage 2 ones one line has, model SM with the D stamped after SM. Then serial # on next line with a J after serial #. If your indicating its a 6 digit serial tractor that would need to be a F prefix followed by 5 numbers. Think at the factory the D was stamped on a SM chassis serial plate when a diesel was installed, so it may not always be in the same place. If you are worried about original I would check it over good.

Thanks Slater, maybe thats what he means, I saw the tractor a few years ago and dont recall the serial number my self. I was more interested in the cast dates to make sure it wasnt a mutt of some sort. The number he gave me does indicate late 53 super m, he must be reading it wrong or something. Ill post back on Saturday what my findings are. thanks again!

Andrew
