A friend of mine dropped amessage last evening to say he'd spotted a CUb up his way, Norhtern Vermont east of Burlington, but it was gone before he got back by. He was wondering about what he might expect to have to pay for one up in northern Vermont, a little east of Burlington. Any thoughts on a what a nothing special running Cub ought to fetch up there. How might a belly or front blade or a belly mower affect that. He's suffering from a little tractor envy, but he was a good chum and listened to all my adventures from rebuilding my SUperC. A Cub would be about the right size for his place and the work he wnats to so with it, and I think he'd love having one if he comes across another one. That'd be one more working red one out there. We'd both appreciate any guidance. TIA.

For your friend in Northern Vermont, the best deals are north of him. Go up into Quebec and there are lots of A's and Cub's still around the vegetable growing areas. The only word of advice is that you will need someone who speaks French in some areas. Montreal area is not to bad but up near Quebec City you don't hear much English. The exchange on the dollar makes it worth it.There is a Case IH dealer at Coaticook (near Sherbrooke), and I think his name is Changnon and I know he dabbles in the old IH tractors.

i'm a super a, super c fan. most of us vegetable growers had them here in NEast PA. there weren't many cubs or allis g's around because of the size was too small and too little hp to pull a full gang of cultivators up and down the tomato fields.my dads first tractor was a vaccume A. soon to be replaced by the super a. it was his only tractor for years on his dairy vegetable farm. it plowed about 10 acres a year, pulled the corn harvestor, mowed all the hay. when i was a kid, it filled our 14x40 silo every year with a belt driven A-C table blower. we still have it , a little blow-by and all.

i have a cub my self, and never had any major problems with it. i use it almost daily to plow, push snow, small chores,(pull the ol'mans long tractor around, he,he ), etc. and by no means do i take it easy on the old red. she just keeps on purring. i payed 1,700 for mine with a plow, disc, blade, lifting platform, tire chains new in the box, all manuals, and a bag of oils and misc. parts. i seen lesser cubs go for alot more my way here in ohio. if your friend just likes to play, then a cub in my opinion is a good choice. dont get me wrong, i would love to have bigger ones, but for what i do and the price, i couldnt pass it up.

buy the bigger tractor you always end up wishing you had/not saying anything wrong with cub but buy bigger one then "grow into it"

Scotty: I personally would have difficulty recomending a cub. a lot of these cubs are getting old and have already had their engines redone once or twice. My reasons, 1. I always found that little engine very tempermental. 2. The engine is not a sleeved engine. 3. That little engine turns about 2500 rpm at full throtle. I would go with SuperA, 100, 130 or 140; roughly same size, sleeved engine and down at 1500 rpm. That rpm alone cuts your engine wear. I know you will pay a little more to buy, but it could be less expensive in the long run.

Ralph: I expected what you say. I was just expressing my own personal experiences and opinions. My neighbour a Cockshutt restorer, but seeing my Super A and 130 working, came across a bargain one day while out buying. Three cubs with an assortment of attachments. That was three years ago and he still has two of them. I dont know the price tag but suspect it is quite good. I rest my case.
