i have an opportunity to trade even my 300 utility for a super m. even though i need to travel from maine to ny for the trade i'm tempted since the super m is interchangeable with my m as far as implement swapping goes and the 300, though in good shape and usable, isn't compatable. any thoughts on this? the super is in tough shape

I can't help but remember the old saying about the bird in the hand being worth more than the one that has been rode hard and put up wet, If you get what I mean. (my 2cents worth)

Presuming your 300 is in better shape than the Super M, I'd sell the 300 outright and use a portion of the proceeds to purchase the SM. Then use the $ left over to put the SM into shape.

Around here, utility tractors typically sell for much higher prices than row crops. Seems the yuppies are partial to the utilities for mowing their 5 acre country spreads, etc. And I think utilities simply look "cute" and less intimidating to city folk who have never seen nor run a row crop before. In this area a beatup 9N Ford will run $2,500 minimum - an IHC 300 will get even more. Meanwhile an equally beatup but fulling functioning SH or SM can be had for around $1,000.

Sounds fair enough if the Super M is in as good of shape as the 300 or maybe a little better. I think the Super M will be more collectable in the years to come also.

Kevin if the 300U is not usable in your settup it might make some sense to swap. However swapping even doesn't sound right to me. "Tough shape" on the Super M throws up a big red flag in my book. Can you expand on the Super's condition?

bigred- the sm, 12v, hasn't been running in a few years, last i knew owner had put kero in plugs to free them up, won't do the deal if it isn't running, it was used for row crop in not too distant past, has fast hitch- which i have a 2 bottom plow and 7 ft sickle mower for. front end has straight up wheels not bowed in like my m, tires are about like my 300 6v, not as good as the m, my m has saginaw 3 pt hitch add on. 300U's are not popular around here, haven't seen many. the tourge amp currently isn't working.
