Farmall H Wiring

I am wiring my 44 Farmall H. It has the battery ignition. It has the regulator mounted on the generator(with bat, L, f, and gen terminals). The light switch/instrument panel is the one with fuse holder on the back of the light switch, not on the panel. This is a multi position light switch.
According to the owners manual that I have, It shows this light switch/instrument panel being used for systems with the magneto ignition. I am assuming they’re interchangeable? Now, on to my question. I am supposed to hook two wires to the “junction block” on the instrument panel(one to the ignition switch, one to the L terminal on the regulator). However, the light switch that I have does not show what the “junction block” is. Do these wires go to the bottom screw on the lower part of the fuse connection??? Thanks.

I put a new voltage regulator that I bought from IH/Case on my 45 H. The new reg was a 4 terminal reg, while the one it was replacing was a 3 terminal reg. I have a similar switch with H-L-D-B. The reg I got from IH required a little rewiring to remove the resistor from the charging circuit that was in the switch, and it was replaced with a resistor that mounted right on the regulator for the field terminal. do you have a setup like this? has anyone else used this IH setup? I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is using this setup to see what kind of generator output you are getting using the IH setup with the resistor in the field on the voltae regulator. If you would like I can take a picture of the back of my switch and e-mail it to you. I got it all wired up with very little trouble. I just followed the instructions closely and worked very slowly.

I was going to ask about my cobbled up 12v. system but I'm thinking I don't want to know. To cut to the quick, I have a 12v neg. ground set up with a Delco alt. and key switch (I know, I know...). I found a 3 position light switch figuring I would just go hot out to the lights and that would be it. Sounds more complicated than that or I am just slightly "cornfused"?

Is your light switch 3 or 4 position light switch? On the back of the switch, do you see one or two resistors?

The light switch has 4 positions(clicks 3 times when turned, plus its original position). There is one resistor on the back (i am assuming this is, what appears to be, the 1" long strip with wires wraped around a piece foil?. In addition there is the dimmer coil.

OK here we go. The schematic you have was for a later style light box which had an accesible fuse from the front and a junction box built in the back of the light box facing.

On your settup ignore the L terminal on the voltage regulator.

The following is for positive ground settup.

Run a wire from the bat. terminal of the voltage regulator to the negative terminal on the ampmeter. That ampmeter terminal should also have a wire going to the light switch fused side and a wire to your coil switch.

The wire from the hot side of the starter switch goes to the positive post on the ampmeter.

Run a wire from the field post on the generator to that lower screw that is just right of that flat resistor. This should give you low charge, high charge, dim lights, bright lights.

The Red:
Oaky, I think I'm gettin it. Just a few clarifications. You say the negative terminal (on the ampmeter) gets 3 wires(bat terminal on the regulator, light switch, and coil switch???) Do you mean the negative post on the coil?? If not, what is the coil switch?

Also, you say to run a wire from the field post on the generator to the resistor. I also have a wire running from the F terminal on the generator to the F on the regulator. Is this correct, two wires coming from the F terminal on the generator.

Thanks again!

Second paragraph is correct.

In your first paragraph, you have a wire that runs from the negative amp post through your on and off switch (i.e. coil switch) to the negative side on your coil. Punch below for a picture.

Great! One last clarification, I promise!
The coil: Positive terminal to the distributor, and the negative terminal connects to where??
It was originally going to the positive on the ammeter.

I apologize if I am not making myself clear. The wire from the negative side of the coil goes to the coil switch. That wire than goes from the coil switch to the negative side of the amp gauge post.
