Hello -

I was trying to adjust the angle of my Cub grader blade but it appears that the square shoulder of the carriage bolt (or perhaps the hole in the bracket) is stripped. How many hours will it take to cut through the 1/2" carriage bolt with a hacksaw? Or should I try to find a big nut splitter and break off that horned nut?

Thanks -

A sharp chisel and large hammer will burst it off with just a few blows. Wear heavy glove to protect fingers.

Just use an air cut-off tool and cut as much of the bolt off as you can and then grind the bolt flush with the blade and then knock it out with a punch. It's a lot quicker.

Or just try dynamite, but I'm not responsible for any accidents.

JUST KIDDING!

The cut-off tool should do the trick.

When that has happened to me, and I don't care if I save the bolt or not, I use vice grips on the very end of the bolt threads. Then loosen the nut and turn it all the way to the threads that the vice grips goobered. Then move the vice grips to the other side of the nut and force it the rest of the way off. Use lots of light oil. Works most of the time, but destroys the bolt.

maybe try to get a good lock on it with a pair of vise grips and then try to break it free. Those carrige can be a headache, but with a decent hacksaw blade, assuming you can get to it easy enough, it shouldn't take that long to cut. Good luck!

It shouldn't take to long to cut with hack saw if that is all you have available

I dont see why you couldnt just grind the head off the bolt with an angle grinder.
