I just bought a farmall MD and someone was telling me that they are a really rare tractor. On auction I went to one sold for $15000.00 restored! Can anyone give me some insight on how rare these tractors are?

I just love the sound of my Super MD. Boy does it pull hard. It makes it hard to even compare it's torque to a gas Super M. It's the first "real" diesel we have. My 2001 John Deere 4300 is diesel, but the 3 cylinder doesn't have the cool "diesel" sound.

I bought a Super MD about a year ago for $2000. Runs great. No rust, just old paint.

I always wondered how many MDs were built. I've told folks that asked that I thought maybe 5 percent of the Ms were Diesels. Looks like that is about right.

Thats a lot of money!Like Haas said, they are plenty of them out there.Around my neck of the woods they are hard ro come by simplt for the reason of the bad reputation the head has for cracking.I do know where two MDs and one Super MD is but the owners wont part with them.

You want one for $15,000 here it is. Just let me know where you want it. These tractors are not real rare. There are plenty of them to be found, but fixing up the engines is expensive. The chassis(frame, clutch, transmission and so on) is the same as the M with a few minor changes.

Did these diesels have spark plugs, distributor and carburetor on one side for starting or not? I don't think I've ever seen an MD up close. There are none around here. Farmers here didn't start using diesels until the 806 era. Not many owners of other brands did, either.

Yes they did,,, started on gas,,, warmed up them switched them manually to Diesel... half and half system,,,, which may be why they weren't universally loved,,,, by their owners like the regular M,, John in Nebr.

Well, maybe not universally loved, but we sure loved the one I grew up on. Very economical and very dependable. It sure did a lot of work.
