Whenever I drive my 460 downhill, the engine does not hold the tractor back, it just keeps going faster and faster. I usually have to use my brakes to keep from careening out of control!! I need help! I have never had a tractor do this before! What is the problem??

If you have a TA, and it is engaged(lever pulled back) then this is normal and you should normally opperate the tractor with the TA lever forward. If the TA lever is forward, then I would look for problems with the TA.

Tom, does you tractor do this with the TA lever forward? If your going down hill with the TA lever pulled back it will coast going down hill. Just make sure that your TA lever is forward when going down hill. With your throtle down I would think it would take a pretty steep hill to run the rpm up even in high gear unless you had a pretty heavy load behind you.

My first guess would be that your engine is worn and has a lack of compression to hold it back. Either that or something is wrong with your carburetor or governor has problems. I know it's not safe but I push the clutch going down hill.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PULL THE TA!! IT WILL EXPLODE!!

He's right on that ! I let a friend borrow mine and he wasn't used to T.A.'s(allis chalmers dude) and it destroyed the sun gears and cage ! Going down hill with it back was a no-no. My 2 cents
