My Farmall 450 gasoline has recently become hard to start. When the engine is cold and choked it will finally start and when started runs OK. However, when the engine is warm, it will not re-start. After being cranked over a few times, gasoline drips out of the throttle rod tube leading from the carburetor to the governor. What should I do first?

Also check manifold for tightness. Is there a "whistling" sound when it is warmed up and at idle? If it does, there is a leak in the intake manifold circuit, usually where it joins the head. May need a new gasket. May be a cracked intake manifold, that only opens up when warm. Also as you stated, that the gas drips out of the throttle shaft area, there may be a worn shaft and it will allow air to enter and cause poor starting.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 400. I FOUND IT TO BE AN OCCASSIONARY STUCK FLOAT. ALSO I WENT THROUGH AND READJUSTED ALL THE GOVENOR POINTS LIKE IT SAYS TO IN THE MANUAL I HAD. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!

Check the float in the carb to make sure it is closing

I think what he really meant to say was check the needle valve and seat. If a little piece of trash or dirt gets in it, it won't close properly and the carb will flood. I've been there and done that with my 350, put in 3 new needle valves before I got a good one. Hope this helps.
