seems that lately the tractor trans is getting stuck in 1st gear a lot. the shifter pushes the slider thing too far foreward and then the shifter prong can't reach it too pull it back. does anyone know what might be wrong and how to fix. currently i unscrew the three shifter bolts, undo the shifter and manually push the slider back with a pry bar to neutral and then reinstall the shifter where its supposed to be. of course i block the wheels first, so i don't run myself over.

I had the same problem on one of my 560's, we were actually pulling the gearshift up instead of just push/pull it forward and back and it would stick between gears or stick in one gear and you had to take the shifter out to pop it back. It turned out our shifter was missing(broke) the upper retainer that keeps you from pulling it up too far.

I think that you are in for pulling the deck off and fixing the stop block if the rail is going to far then something must have broken or fell off.

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Fair Weather Tractor - by Dave M.. No, Fair Weather isn't some rare brand. It's the kind you can't leave out in the rain. Here's how it happened. I had been casually looking for a tractor for weeks. I saw a few 9N's, but they had even fewer amenities than the 8N my Grandpa bought new in '52 with a Dearborn loader. That was 10 years before I was born, so I grew up thinking that 8N was the world's best tractor. Grandpa had greenhouses, with over half an acre under glass, and that 8N did almost everything. It was the only ... [Read Article]
