I have a 1947 cub that does not have hydro- lift. Can the power lift unit be put on the tractor under the gas tank , which is the proper place for it to be, or just be satisfied with the hand lift version. Or put a hydrolic unit on the PTO shaft and attach a cylinder to lift a belly mower and the like????

Yes, you can add the system. You will also need the pump,piping and controls. If it were me, I would keep the old Armstrong lift system. This situation seems like a good reason to get another Cub.
