My 47 M is leaking Hydraulic Oil from the belly pump. Its oozing from the cover on the trany housing... Is there fluid on the other side or is it leaking from the pump and dripping onto to the housing and through the seal? I know the darn thing is heavy and I don't want to mess with it until I can order the right seals to rebuild it or whatever is leaking...If I take it out should I replace any other seals at that time?

If you are speaking of the cover that is under the tractor just behind the belly pump, there is no fluid there except what is leaking. Take the cover off and you can look up in there and see the shaft that drives the belly pump. If you clean it up some, you should be able to see where the leak is coming from. Most likely is the belly pump shaft seal. You have to take the belly pump out to replace it. Also, the transmission counter shaft seal may be leaking. The countershaft drives the belly pump. I took my belly pump out by replacing the 3/8 bolts one at a time with threaded rods and nuts and then lowering the pump down with the nuts. You have to take all the piping conections and the operating lever out first.

That leak could also be coming from the transmission. Easy way to determine the source: Drain the belly pump (remove the pipe plug at the bottom) and remove the belly pump drive coupling. Then run the tractor around for a few minutes and see whether you still get oil dripping from the area.

If you do find it's the tranny leaking, either the countershaft or mainshaft seals (or more likely both...) need replacing. You'll still have to drop the belly pump to get at the tranny seals, but it's a straightforward and inexpensive repair, and you won't need to split the tractor.

The primary source for leaks on the H and M belly pumps are the resivoir gasket and the countershaft seal. And that sucker is a good 100 pounds. Have help when you lower it!!
