Is there any modifications for the Farmall 504 brake systems? We had new pads put in about 4 years ago and now the left side is nearly gone and the right side just barely works. The tractor is used on a hobby farm, less than 100 hours per year and no abusive use of the brakes. A neighbor ground an extended grove in the pressure plate on a SM-TA that helped. Is this the same type of brakes on the 504?

Dave it sounds as if the brakes were set up too tight and wore prematurely. Tractor brakes should last for years on a hobby farm or any other kind of farm. I'm not familiar with the specs for setting up a 504, but from your description that's far too much wear in a short period of time. Have you ever noticed heat or smell from the brakes?...this could indicate being set too tight. Good luck getting it sorted out. Mike in Exeter Ontario
