I just purchased an IHC 300 Utility tractor with a loader. The tractor has a PTO driven pump and extra fluid tank hooked into the existing hydraulic system to run the loader. The tractor has power steering, 3 point, and an additional hydraulic hookup. Does anyone know if the hydraulic system of the tractor itself can run the loader or is it absolutely necessary to have the PTO pump as well? I woud like to eliminate the extra plumbing and hassle of the PTO pump. Thanks.

Carsen,

I really hope it will work. Mine is midway in a conversion to do the same thing. The PTO pump is a bummer, so I removed it and the reservoir. Maybe it will be a little slower, but at least it will be live. I made some assumptions about how the valves work, so my first attempt at conversion was not successful. My current setup short circuits the pump output so nothing works. I hope to use conventional loader valves.

Maybe someone knows where to tap the oil supply without shutting down the fasthitch.

Carsen: I have owned a 300U with loader since about 1975. My pump is original with about 5000 hours and it works fine. This tractor has been used with fast-hitch equipment many years in the fields of my farm and now the loaders is used year around. One problem I had was plugging of the screen in the reservoir under the seat. When the screen was plugged oil flow was greatly limited. It's heavy for an old man to remove the reservoir so the second time it happened I removed the internal screen and added a large capacity industrial type hydraulic oil filter in the return line to the pump on the right side near the engine block. That solved the problem and the screw-off filter is easy to change. The filter kit was available through NAPA. Good Luck, Ken

I don't know for sure about a 300U, but I ran a 350U with a loader several times over the last few days and you are probably better off with the PTO pump. The built in pump works, but it won't overwhelm you with it's speed.

I have a 300U and have considered a pto pump for my loader. It has a 36" trip bucket and when full of dirt, it really struggles even at high rpm's. The pump was re-built years ago which helped. Mine doesn't have power steering so it's just as well that it won't lift much. I destroyed the steering gear box turning on rough ground. That was no fun to change.I'm sure others on this site will know for sure. Big Fred where are you?

I'm sure the hydraulics would be much slower without the PTO pump.

It should be able to, unless the pump is shot. Mine will handle a loader and 3 pt along with P/S just fine.
