I have a 41 M and this is my first farmall. After tearing down the engine I found out that 2 sleeves were busted. I'm trying to keep costs down, so to make a long story short, I know that the original bore is 3 7/8 and super M's are 4 1/8. As best as I can tell the pistons ar an even 4". Is this right? Did they make a 4" sleeve bore? If so who has some good used sleeves of this type. If you have them, let me know how much.

Todd,
I have a 4" (new)sleeve if you still need 'em, also have a head gasket and valve cover gasket too. I just rebuilt my engine and bought a few extra parts just in case I fouled up the 1st time.

Todd, For your info there are two sets of sleeves for a Farmall M listed on e-bay as of tonight.

But I would rather buy from a dealer, at least you may be able to exchange them if the wrong set was ordered. Plus you really would not know if the e-bay seller has all of the parts, or if some were missing in the set.

I have added the link to view one of these sets if you wish. But if you do deciede to go this route contact the seller first, get all of the specs for the item listred and make sure all your questions are answered in detail very clearly.

Todd, If you do need to replace the sleeves in your M, don't do just the 2 that are shot now. We replaced one sleeve in my H, only to have another give out about two months later.

I would recommend that you replace all of them with new ones not used. If you replace the shot ones now the others may give you trouble later.

Some others may not agree with me, and I am in no way an expert. But if I had only replaced mine with all new ones I would not have needed to go back into her a few months and do everything all over again.

I understand your needing or trying to keep the cost down, but if you do all of them now that ol M will probably outlast all of us.

Shop around, you can find most anything that may be needed on the net.

I have attached a web site that has NOS (new old stock) items for these Old Farmalls, including sleeve sets. After opening the page go to the left side of the screen and click on the "Piston and Sleeve Sets" button then go down the list and see if they have a set that meets your needs.

Their prices don't seem to be bad but like anything, someone may be able to find a better price elsewhere.

good luck

Standard sheeves for M are 3 7/8, standard for Super M are 4". I knew you could super a standard M but didn't think you could go to 4 1/8 unless it was a super block.

Todd,I wouldn,t put used sleeves in any motor. The problems that could occure isn,t worth the price. There easily could be hair line cracks. If you want to keep the cost down buy after market stuff,it can be as much as 1/3 the cost as H/I parts.Example:in canada a set of valve guides "8" of them are 34.00 each,at "restoration supply"in Mass the whole set cost 36.00,a world of difference AH!! good luck Todd

Someone has put overbore sleeves and pistons in your M. Typically the oversize sleeves and pistons are 1/8 inch larger than the originals. It's common to do this when sleeves are replaced.
