Just bought my first farmall h tractor. Does not have a serial number tag. Can tractor be identified by using casting numbers or carburetor numbers or any other numbers? Can anyone help me please?????

Kim,
While the engine S/N may help, you can also date the tractor from the casting codes on the larger parts of the tractor. The casting codes are raised with the first two parts being numbers and the third part being a letter, i.e.: 6*12*R, which translates to June 12, 1949. This is the date the part was cast. The casting codes start with A in 1931 and goes through Z in 1954 and back to D in 1958. U and W were both used for 1951 and there was no V.
Keep in mind that the parts were cast a few months prior to being assembled into tractors (my '49 M has both R and S date coded parts).

Hope this helps,
Phil

Kim,
If you look on the engine block on the oil filter side of the tractor you will see two flattened areas near the valve head and engine meet. There is one near the front of the engine and one near the back (above the oil filter). One of these should be stamped with a serial number. It may not be the same as the chassis number, because the engine may have been replaced.
