OK...I am way confused about this gas cap thing. First, I know you can send a form in to Case / IH and get a free safety gas cap. This cap is taller than the original.

I understand from past posts that they are not available through the Case / IH dealer and it takes up to 3 months to get the free ones.

I didn't know all this before I sent my wife after some parts I needed and asked her to get a gas cap (thinking I would get a tall safety type even though I would end up paying for it myself).

What I got was a cap that looks very much like the original but it seems to have a chrome type finish and has no markings on it at all.

Question: What in the bloody #&!! did I get??? Is it a "safety" cap with all the features of the free cap or did I get a cheap knock off that is no better than the original? It is not vented that I can see and has a rubber gasket. I have not tried it on the tractor yet. I'm sure I can take it back if it is junk.

What do you think guys???

You can still get the triple baffle gas cap from your Case IH dealer. But be careful. 9 times out of 10 when I ask for a gas cap, they give me the same crome cap you are talking about. It is just a generic gas cap. Tell them you want a triple baffle gas cap or a safety gas cap and they should know what you are talking about.

Does this apply to all Farmall tractors? If so I would like a copy of that form.

The correct cap should have words on it in raised letters saying to remove cap slowly. I ordered a service book for my SMTA and they sent the form with it. Don't think it took 3 months but was a while. If you got a cp now you can use it until the new one comes. Only thing with the new one is it is a pain to get on and off sometimes as you have to turn and lift then turn somemore.

One thing everybody should know. The free safety
gas caps from Navistar do NOT apply to any of the
F series tractors. I tried to get caps for my F20 and 30 and received a note from the company
that they were not available for them.

I work for the company that makes them a number to call is 248-643-0220. A guy will walk you through what you have and probably give you a number to a dist. in Colorado. Where I work we literally have hundreds of gas, water caps in boxes for farmall, allis c, ford U name it.

Bama, Don't really know what you got from your dealer. Maybe he ran out of the taller safety caps that dealers had to exchange for your old one. I'll email you the form if you need to order the tall safety cap from Navistar International. The only drawback is the waiting for it to arrive. It's still free and it doesn't look like the original but it is offered to owners like you without having to send in your old cap. It comes in basic black and has a safety warning decal to place near the cap on the tank. Some folks don't use the decal, it's your choice.//FB

Stephen, Your place of employment blocked my emailing of the form to you. Something about an access form that you have to fill out to allow you to receive attachments. Email me direct from non-employment site and I'll send you the form.//FB

We own 2 Farmall Bs and both have the free replacement caps and the are taller and black. I have never had any trouble getting them on or off though. If it is hard to get the cap on or off your stopper clips inside the hole may be bent this can cause it to screw on crappy. When my dad got the free replacement caps around 1980 he traded in the original caps to get them. Also the original caps i think say "use clean fuel" and "keep it clean".
