My M has been in parts for years. Not ready to take the ole gal down the road just yet but we're getting there. I was looking at my owners book last eve. and it looked like a hood support rod in one of the pictures of the left (clutch) side of the tractor. Could not see one in any pics. of the left side. Now I'm dealing with parts and I sure can not find any rods that look like they would fit. If indeed there are some about what size of rod 3/16 or such? And is this a part a guy could just make by threading some rod? And where do they hook to and what do they look like? Thanks for any help.

After looking again at the pic. Could this be radiator support rods? If so where do the rear of the rods go?

There is one rod that runs between the radiator shroud and the support for the gauges and steering rod. it goes right over top of the valve cover. It is about the size you are talking about. That is the only thing I can think of that would possibly be what you are referring to. Bill {Antique Acres}

i'm not familiar with a hood support rod. There are the J rods about that size that hold the hood down, and there is a bod about 1/2 inch that goes from the steering support to the radiator.

I think the rod that goes from the steering support to the radiator is a brace for the top of the radiator.

My M has no such rod as you all are talking about and I don't think it ever did. Unless it would be the throttle linkage. Maybe it is the breather pipe for the governor. You all sure confuse me.

The part is called the "radiator tie rod" For the M it is IH part No. 68281D For the MD, it is part NO. 69230D. The rod is attached on one end to the "Radiator Brace Tie Plate" (which is attached to the top of the radiator) and the other end is attached I believe to the steering shaft center support. The parts book does not show the attachment at the center of the tractor so can't tell for sure exact attachment point without looking at my tractor. The only function for the rod that I can see is to brace the radiator at the top.
