What kind of paint should we use on our Farmall M. This is the first "red thing" that we have restored so we are not too sure. We picked up some CASE/INTERNATIONAL red but I don't know if it will match the new seat we ordered. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I disagree with anything that is marketed "to match Case/IH red." If you are gonna paint the tractor, paint it with 2150 from your local case IH dealer. It wont completely match IH 50, but is close. Make sure you use the case/IH reducer, and all suggestions with the paint.

Go to your John Deere dealer and get their dark red paint. On the can it has the words "matches Case/IH red". It has more gloss and won't fade as fast as other red paints and its easy for amateur painters to use. I recently painted a Super H with it and it really shines.

Just get IH 2150 red at your local Case IH dealer. It is the original paint for these tractors. There are other premium paints available from the paint manufacturers if you want a show tractor.

What ever paint you use, preparation is 90 precent of a good looking paint job. Nothing looks worse than old paint pealing under you new paint. The hood and gas tank will look better if you sand them down to bare metal and use a good primer before the final coat. Another tip is to wipe you tractor down with a soft clean cloth saturated with the thinner you use for your paint before you start to paint each coat. This will get rid of the oil from you fingertips where you touched the metal. Gets rid of any dust that might have settled on your tractor too.
