Thanks red for your help on this problem, this super M belongs to my son-in law,I've been busy baling hay and we have a tractor show this weekend, nothing like waiting until the last minute on this one. The radiator cap Bob M said was part of the problem and being over full another,we've been so darn busy to look at it, but again you fine people came to our rescue!!!

Ken Updike has IH gauges built to spec. 608-455-2411. I believe the pressure should be around 8 psi. You can get a thermostat from NAPA. I don't have the M parts number in front of me.

Hey Binder-Man - Assuming the motor's not overheating, installing a new radiator cap (one with the correct pressure rating) should solve your problem.

Bob I just took a wire brush to the serial and stamp date numbers. 9-16-R which makes it a 1948. The engine serial number is 300050 which also corresponds with a late 1948.

What is your temperature gauge indicating when it starts to overflow?

most of the time wen you have a cracked head they push water out the cap,Mac-tool man has a block tester that will show if there is corbunmooxied in the water-there like 15.00 bucks, also make sure you are not filling the radiator to mutch, good luck
