Just wondering whether the A's, Super A's, B's, C's and H's used spur gears in the transmissions like the Cubs did? I bet they didn't as I don't see many complaints here on gear noise.

IH used straight cut spur gears in all their tractor transmissions until the 5X88 series was finally introduced in 1981. They did have a couple helical gears like for timing gears, but almost ALL tranny gears were spur gears.
