How do I put a helicoil in my Cub carb, it's a 56 model with the IH carb, and the threads are stripped. what size drill bit, threader and helicoil do I need? Thanks again.

If you're talking about where the fuel line threads in, I dont think a helicoil will work there. Not much depth of threads to work with, and then there's the compression ring seat at the bottom. I've seen more than a few shade tree fixes here, jb weld, a npt fitting jammed in, layers of tape, etc. Most leak. Unfortutately stripped threads here are not uncommon. Almost as common as the top cover of the carb bring screwed down too tight, causing it to warp. Aluminium here is not a great choice.

Best bet may be a replacement cover / carb.

The correct twist drill and tap comes with the kit if you get the good one. Standard inverted flare nut thread thread...7/16-20 I believe, but you should double check that.

Have you been on the farmallcub web site? There are a couple regulars there that have the tools to put in a helicoil (and get it in line with the seat for the compression ring). If you post your situation over there, one of the guys with the tools will probably offer to do it for you. They will do it for free if you send return postage.

you didnt say just what threads are stripped and what size threads and where on the carb its easy to go to the next size

Would just like to throw out there that 9 times out of 10 the reason the threads strip is because at some time in the past the fuel line was cross-threaded in there. When you get your carb fixed, remove the fuel line and bend it for perfect alignment with the carb inlet, and polish the nut area of the line so that the nut can be turned with your fingers easily. Then you can tell by feel if the nut is starting in properly.

Order a $30 Amazon cub carb.... Use the top half...... Or the whole thing. I have one on my cultivator Cub, working perfectly for over 2 years......

the threads were the gas line goes in I just ordered one from Amazon that had good reviews so we'll see, thanks again.

If you are going to use one of the cheap knock-off carburetors, there are 2 problems you should deal with before you install it.

1) The float is probably not correctly adjusted.
2) Many of them, an internal hole was not drilled.

I suggest that before you ever mount it on the tractor you open it up. Drill the hole if it isn't there and set the float height/drop to the original IH specs. Here is a thread that discusses the missing hole and has a picture of where to look.

We have used a dozen or more Amazon carbs
on Cubs. Never had to adjust a single
float. We do have to drill the hole out.
Takes a few minutes and for the price it's
well worth it.

Bit size isn't critical, the brass jet regulates the flow. When we buy a Cub that's missing a carb, these are a great choice. I have one on my cultivator cub, gets lots of use, never needed any adjustments.

GET a hose barb and some liquid wrench to cement it in then go to rubber hose to the carb. There is that product that has the two materials i twin tubes so you get the same material equal it is good stuff worth a try because getting a heli coil there isnt in the book. Or just get one of those new carbs for less than 30.00 people are getting along just fine with them. WHEN THREADING THE FITTING I ALWAYS HAVE THE CARB LOOSE SO I CAN THREAD IT BY HAND you can then move the carb to bolt it fast after the gasline is secure been doing that for yrs and it makes sure no cross threading same way threading to the sediment bowl have the line free from the carb so you can hand thread
