Changing Hydraulic Filter

Wondering if you can change the filter on Case IH models 995 down through 395 without having the sump contents come gushing out at you? I realize the cannister will be full but is it fed from the oil pump meaning that the pump has to be moving to deliver any additional oil.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. Appreciate your time.

Besides the crashed dash, only thing working was the tach, the sun had almost totally obliterated the clear plastic screen I have the Ford $100 hooked up and running with a new fuel sender that does a good job of matching the OEM which was missing in the tank, and the oil pressure switch had come apart fixed that idiot switch and installed an alalog meter at the pump to monitor actual pressure....runs 60 psi at idle cold, 50 hot... 15w-40..... checked the marriage of the IH temp sender to the Ford gauge and it is going to work well enough to warn me if I am starting to overheat. The only thing left to calibrate is the tach. It is 600 at idle which meets my Fords and other tractors idle speed, I need to install my quick tach and find PTO RPMs and mark the speedometer. The Ford gets non liner as the RPMs increase, falling off on a linear scale, like the OEM but it kept moving linearly as speed was increased. Once I mark PTO I don't care about the rest of it.

I've been away from IH since about mid 80's. This tractor is somewhat similar to my 464 gas I had then and disliked for 2 main reasons: gas problems and cramped operators platform-seating area. This tractor solved both these problems being diesel and larger station and its longer wheelbase and heavier, riding nicely at mowing and hay preparation speeds which is the second thing I wanted in another.......besides one more tractor means the times I have to change implements working at my age and alone is what its all about these days......and it has a pretty paint job and a nice new instrument panel.....that works.....will work with a couple more kinks ironed out.
