Bought a Super M

Just bought a Super M on an online auction. Now I have to go pick it up and pay for it. I suppose I'll have to get that H I bought at another auction unloaded so I can use my trailer, probably better than driving the Super M the 80 miles home even though I'd be more fun driving the tractor.

Pretty excited to get it home. It has an M&W clutch that I'm told gives me a live PTO. Not sure how that works but I assume it's similar to an Allis Chalmers WD45 setup.

Kind of surprised that I got it bought for less than my high bid.

80 miles will take 5-6 hours. Be a nice scenic drive. The M/W hand clutch is designed to give 'live' PTO. It accomplishes this by 'disconecting' one side of the diferential.Through a hollow pinion shaft and a
series of thin clutch disks. An overcenter clutch controls it.Works pretty good. But will not stand up well with prolonged hard pulling. It will slip while hooked to a weight transfer pulling sled. However,My SM
puts out 60HP with loaded tires, and one/two weights on each side. A 'normal' SM might be fine. I have had one on my superM for over 25 years. Baled a lot of hay with it over the years.

I thought the live PTO ,hydraulics and all that jazz was optional already for the supers. SO I don't see the thrill in the M&W deal.

The 'plain' SuperM(52-53) could be had with either belly pump,or the 'live' engine driven pump. The Super M/TA (1954)was the first to feature Live PTO and TA.
