I have a little rumble coming from the input shaft while in neutral and clutch released, noise/rumble gone while clutch depressed. Can a guy remove the shaft without removing the top cover, no belt pulley to worry about. Or maybe the internal bearing that is in the rear of the input shaft making the noise? I have done the input shaft before on a couple H's, but had the top cover off and it's been a few years ago. I have the liftall pump down and the front bearing out and it looks/sounds good. thanks guys

I believe that you can pull it out. If the pilot bearing on the front of the rear transmission shaft is making the noise and is in that bad of condition there is a fairly good chance that the cage for that bearing is in poor enough condition that the rollers could fall out into the bottom of the transmission when it is pulled. Your noise could also be coming from either of the lower transmission shaft bearings as well. That shaft also is always turning when the engine clutch is engaged or ..pedal released.. as you like to say.

I did mine from underneath by removing the belly pump. I only had to remove the top cover because the rollers from the pilot bearing all fell out and went to the bottom of the transmission.
