450 hydraulics

I have not found out what is required to run a hydraulic drive new holland 166 hay inverter. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if my 450 has the capacity to run it before I get it.

We would need the gallons/minute needed gor the inverter. The sure answer is a PTO driven Hydraulic pump. Jim

The Hyd.'s on a 450 are OLD SCHOOL meaning that your limited here , IF the Pump is good it will put out somewhere between 10 and 12 GPM at pressure and pressure is low by todays standards at around 1250 PSI . A new pump is rated at 12 GPM and and old pump could be varywell below 10 GPM . Only way for sure to see what yours is doing if by testing on a flow rater and NOT many independents have that piece of test equipment as they are not cheap . Also your pressure may be down due to a weak spring on the regulator . The limiting factor on the hyd. pump is the way it is driven off the cam gear and tryen to make the system work on a higher pressure will either shear the Key in the cam or take out the timing gears.

I would doubt you would have enough hydraulics both pressure and volume to run one. You could go the PTO pump route to fill the bill or use a different tractor several years newer like into the 86 series or different brand to get the volume and pressure. Even if you got into the series like a 574 you would only have about 9GPM to run it.

Hyd.'s on and early 86 is a 12 GMP pump and around 220 Psi or so , the late 86's had the PFC system and those i don't know much about as i do not have what is needed to work on that system . But those do have a MOTOR system to run hyd motors.

Certainly wouldnt be ideal.
I used to use one regularly on a 560 and it worked ok
not sure how a 450 compares but like the Vet said, you
run the risk of cam gear issues.
