farmall cub gas tank

i was running my 52 cub just to warm it up and after running 15 min. it died, i stuck the gas tank and it had about2 inches of gas in the tank, i put more gas in maybe another inch and it started right up and ran until i shut it off. is there a stand pipe in the tank or some configuration that would account for my seemingly running out of gas with 2 inches ln the tank. do the chinese carbs have a screen in the gas inlet?. new carb, 30 dollar carb, tractor, runs great so not a running problem.carb has been on for about 10 months.

A. Look in your tank with a good flashlight and see if there is crud floating around by where the sediment bowl screws on. If so you have found one of you possible problems. Getting the crud out from behind the baffles of IH fuel tanks can be a pain. I am only assuming the Cub has tank baffles like an H or M.
B. Your sediment bowl should have a screen in the top to stop any crud from going in the fuel supply line to the carb.
C. If the aftermarket carb is configured to the equivalent of a stock carb; YES it should have a screen on the inlet elbow that the fuel supply line connects to.

Most inexpensive Cub carbs do have the screen. Some Cubs have a stand pipe. Couple of mine do. Keeps crud out of fuel system. If it runs keep more gas in it! Lol

Sometimes owners install their own standpipe because they don t want to clean the bottom of the tank. I found one installed on one of my Farmalls when I removed the sediment bowl/valve from the tank. It was a copper tube fitted into the opening of the valve inlet so that the fuel level needed to be higher.

Top half runs just as cheap as the bottom half with a lot less problems. Never understood that. Go to shows and the guys will have just enough fuel to get from home to home.

next time it stops if there is a next time ill do a little checking before i add gas. like looking at the sediment glass bowl to see if there is gas there . i use a piece of wood to check level i dont feel a stand pipe. if i ran out of gas the glass bowl should be empty, i guess i should of checked that. thanks for input
