Farmall C Curved Drawbar

I have a chance to buy a pull type IH sickle bar mower and need a curved drawbar to be able to connect it to my Farmall C tractor. I might be able to make a drawbar from a Farmall A or B tractor work with some modifications? Would the one off a Farmall B be the closest since I think they clamped to the axle? Anyone have some rough dimensions of a curved drawbar off a Farmall C?

Neither an A nor a B drawbar will be even close.

Both tractors have a drop box style final drive out at the rear wheel. The drawbar bolts directly to the final drives.

On a C the final drives are internal. The drawbar would have to clamp around the axle housings like an H or an M. However an H or M won't work because the axle housings are square vs. the hexagonal housings on the C.

I could probably weld a bracket onto the drawbar to bolt to the axle housing. I have brackets on the Farmall C axle housing for the rear cultivators. Are either the Farmall A or B curved drawbars close
to the same dimensions as the one for the Farmall C?

No. As BE said, the A and B drawbars are not even close. You could do about as well starting with any other random pieces of scrap iron.

Backing up a bit, if you are truly talking about a pull type mower, it should hitch to the standard swinging drawbar with a single draw pin. There is no need for a U-shaped drawbar. If you are talking about a semi-mount mower, it is a different deal. Then you probably would do well with a U-shaped drawbar. If you have the proper axle clamps for your tractor, they should overcome the problem BE pointed out. An H or M drawbar should bolt to the C axle clamps. Another drawbar that would fit is one from an F-12 or F-14. (It is probably easier to find one from an H.)

I bought a Farmall C years ago that had an axle mounted drawbar. I could take a picture if you want but I'm not sure it'll do any good. I have no idea what it originally was on. I bought it with a JD #5 mower mounted to it.

A photo and a distance from the axle housing to the rear of the drawbar would be good. I need to get the spacing between the tractor and mower correct. Thanks.

The mower was previously mounted on a Farmall H. I'm pretty sure it mounted to the curved drawbar on the H. It's not a semi-mount mower. I believe it has 2 trailing wheels. I figured an Farmall H drawbar would be too big for a Farmall C.

Is this the drawbar you are talking about? This is what is on my Farmall C.

Okay on second thought, I guess it would be considered semi-mount mower because you can't mount it to the drawbar with a single pin. The mower has to remain rigid with the tractor and not pivot.

Go to EBay and search for. FARMALL C / SUPER C / 200. IMPLEMENT MOUNTING AXLE CLAMP.

The M H and C used a similar mounting system where you would remove the drawbar and connect a mower, cultivator, etc (now 3 point hitch) directly to the axle clamps

The M and H were the same but the C was a little different mostly lighter duty. Your implement may or may not work but can adapt the implement to attach to the Cs axle clamps.

Hope this helps

Best pics I could find on my phone. I put a Farmall H drawbar onto my daughters Farmall C. Bolts right up to the axle clamps. Can get better pics if you want Mike.

That's good information. I figured it wouldn't fit the axle clamps and would be too wide. Thanks.

The basic dimensions on axle clamp positions etc. were standardized so implements could be more common or easier to modify for one tractor or another.

I should also add, the F-12 drawbar in an earlier picture was the "Quick-Attach" style first used in 1935. Earlier F-12 drawbars did not use axle clamps and bolted directly to the tractor. If someone offers an F-12 drawbar, make sure it is the later style.

I don't know where you are but I have a draw bar that is on my parts H I would sell

Yes we are around 1500 miles from each other if your some place on the coast of VA. I'm in Missouri. I did know some areas of VA well 42 or so years ago but I was stations at Damneck VA and Norfolk VA back in the 70s
