Awhile ago I had posted a message about excessive oil in the crankcase. One response mentioned that if something failed in the pump the hydraulic oil would go into the crankcase of the tractor. What part causes that to happen? Is it a seal in the pump? Would it be both seals? please advise.

Yes,a small seal, between the pump and engine. The pump shaft is most likely grooved as well. However,it is a fairly easy fix.

I will add to Delta's advice. The pumps are not rebuildable meaning if the bushings in the pump are worn enough to let the gear teeth touch the housing, there is no fixing it. If the system was working well and providing enough pressure, all is well. There are several different pumps used by IH some have a seal that looks normal, with a metal housing and a lip. Some are Orings. If the shaft is worn, the new seal may not do the trick. A speedy sleeve is needed to re-face the shaft. if an Oring was used, the housing may need to be machined to allow it to fit. The CaseIH.com parts catalog has info. Jim
