F12 Rolling Wreck

I saved an F12 from the melting furnace. It
was presented to me as a 1938 model year. Does
this serial number confirm that? What does the
FS indicate? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Since you are the one looking for information, why don't you tell us what the serial number is rather than expecting everyone to try to read it from a picture you posted?

Lennie, welcome to YT. I see it as 58235, but the second to the last number could also be an 8. Either way comes up as a 1936 per YTs serial number chart. See link. Not real in the know on the early F series so I cant help you with the FS meaning

Sorry, the keyboard is slow for me since my
stroke. Scroll and click is much less
awkward. I didn't mean to offend.

I read it:FS58295

Hi Lennie,

FS 58285 is January 1936.

The last F12 built was 27 January 1938 - FS 123942

The first F14 was also 27 January 1938 - FS 124000

Awesome! I love the education. I hope to learn
a lot more. I've also recently acquired a
McCormick Deering W6, a Caterpillar D2 dozer
and a Case Terratrac 600 crawler/loader. I
have ample opportunity to turn wrenches and
learn for the foreseeable future.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Life is good!

Forgot to mention that FS is just the letter prefix for F12 and F14 serial numbers.
FAA for Farmall A
FBKH for Farmall H
FBKM for Farmall M

I have a bad habit of collecting F12,14.Parts are getting harder to find since Ive started.Working on one right now.most of mine are 37s.I also have a 33

I've noticed the scarcity of some items, so I've decided to not be a restoration purist in any way. I'll use my imagination and machining skills to fill in the gaps. Should be a good time. Gearbox looks good. Motor is stuck and I haven't figured out why yet.

The first response made me feel like I approached the altar of omniscience without proper reverence. He provided chastising but no information, so I figured I had better learn to stay in my place within the community.

I'm not sure what I may need yet. The countershaft brake linkage looks like it was torched off up front, and my crank start u joint seems big time sloppy. I'll keep you in mind as I learn more. Thanks a lot for responding.

This may be of use for you for the starting handle assembly. I replaced the two shafts and universal joint assembly on my 1937 F12 with the setup shown below. The original setup is awkward to remove if you need to repair it because the front shaft has to slide out toward the motor. That means the motor has to be moved. In addition, the original design has a fault - the universal joint rubs on the underside of the bottom radiator tank and eventually wears through it, especially if the tractor has been driven with the starting handle attached to the front shaft. The altered setup means I can lubricate the universal joint and, if necessary, remove the front shaft without disturbing the motor.
The pin at the top of the photograph is for driving the roll pin in or out of the universal joint and shaft.
