Anybody had trouble with their diesel pickup or tractor having problems with Algae in their tanks,i am, with the pickup, smokes alot, the automatic transmision does not seem to be working like it suppose too, it wont shift up and down right!!!

If someone was having problems with algae in a diesel I would expect them to say I pulled my filter and found black goo. Your problem sounds to me like it is possibly a turbo problem. Depending how old your truck is it should be setting some codes. Addressing the code trouble shooting tree should be a first plan of action.

Well black goo is what i was told to look for, i haven't changed filter yet,But with the turbo not putting out boost, there for no vacuum, that would indicate their is nothing to control the transmission up shift or kick down, and thats what it was doing!

That is quite a convoluted diagnosis. The MAP ..manifold absolute pressure.. sensor sends boost or if present vacuum readings to the computer. That along with throttle position, engine rpm, internal transmission shaft speeds and mph and probably other parameters are all inputs the computer uses to determine transmission shifts. The code, the CODES!

I agree with Used Red, this has nothing to do with algae. MAP sensor, turbo speed sensor, tranny sensor, lots to choose from. Get the trouble codes read and go from there.

Good morning, Tom and all: For peace of mind, can the Original Poster drain all the diesel from all parts of system, then refill with known good diesel? Then he will find out if something else is actually the problem. I am not familiar with the vehicle so I don't know what is most practical. But I do know that basic troubleshooting requires separating the problems, then working one at a time.

Hi Dennis and all, It's a 95 GMC 6,5 Turbo Diesel, if i get time i will just change fuel filter, and when i suck out the bottom of canister, i will have a better idea of what i am up against, my local chev dealer said he could read my codes, Oct 6th,LOL, i said couldn't wit that long, so time will tell!
