1966 cub lo boy fuse replacement

My fuse holder is broken (along with some other electrical issue. I have not yet figured out). But first. How do you replace that fuse holder ? There are two bolts holding the front panel. I got one out. With some difficulty on left side. On other side there is little access to the bolt on bottom holding the panel. It is all covered by wires. And the switches etc no way I can figure to get a bolt either in nor down from top to it ?

Can be done, a little tricky. A swivel socket and long extension help. Unhook battery ground so as to avoid sparks / damage.
Once out, weld up any cracks near the bolt holes. They all have them

Yeh.. i tried all that.. if you come in from the one side.. the muffler pipe is in way of wrench. Did you come in from that side? If you try the other side.. i cant put a straight extender down from top. As all the wiring and switch is there. So where did you use an extender.. and of course you cant just use a simple open end wrench. Wont stay on the nut.. :0/. So, which side did you come in from?

Just gring the head or nut off and replace the bolt, or use a new nut. I would go to one of the spade fuses and solve the problem it could be mounted inline and outside of the box. Some even can be got with a rubber cover for water protection.

Good mornjng. Ah. Can t grind it off. The issue is. Yiu can t get to it. Even with a open end wrench let alone with a grinding tool . It s buried under the wires and back prongs of switches (I almost broke the one switch lead trying to bend it out of the way ). Just not enough space . As best I can figure . I m at church now. Will pray for wisdom to solve this one

A picture would be helpful. It appears that you may be
posting from an iPhone since your apostrophes are
getting knocked out, but you could be using an Apple
Safari browser as well which likely could cause that.
The reason for that is a long story. If you are using a
iPhone it is quite easy to post a photo here. Type in
what you want to say then scroll down to the bottom of
the window and you will see ..Upload Photos/Videos..
below that is a button ..Choose files.. Then it gives you
an option to ..Take a photo.. or ..Photo Library.. if you
just want to take a photo to post do that. If you have
taken the photos previously go to ..Photo library.. and
tap the photos you want to post. Then in the upper
right click ..Add.. This is the process for an iPhone, I
am sure there are a few variations in the names of
some things in Android devices. From a PC I believe
you click the ..Choose files.. button and then there is a
..Choose files.. option there to get to the folders you
store your photos in. That should do it. I am not sure
how many pictures you can post at once from an
iPhone, I know I have done 3 before.

Ok. So I will try and post a video I took before I took the hood all off. Yiu will see on bottom of front control panel the black
Fuss holder I wish to replace I am not sure if it can just be screwed out. If so it is tight. If not the panel has to come off to get at it from the back. And that is the problem the two bolts are on the inside. I got the one off from left as Yiu look at it. Here. The one inside on right is totally blocked by wires and such

A video cannot be very long and still be under the
allowed size for this site. Pictures would probably be
better. The longer videos you see links to on here are
placed on a host sight like YouTube as an example,
then the link just goes to the web address of the video
on YouTube.

Ok. So I loaded one photo. That is the left side of tractor as Yiu air in it. It shows the back of electric panel with switches etc. I was able to get in. And remove bottom nut. Now I ll show right side where it looks impossible to get any wrench in to remove th second lower bolt that holds the front panel on. Note. I have already removed the hood since this picture was taken

Here is right side of panel

As you can see the break and wires and switch all get i the way to reach bottom nut.
On second thought Have any of you ever actually
Replace d the front fuse holder. Can it be done. With out removing this whole front plate somehow? I hope

(quoted from post at 08:22:25 09/25/22) So, which side did you come in from?
Scott,
right side right bolt, left side left bolt
Make some room
Move some wires
remove the battery cable clip, lift the rear of the hood / fuel tank if necessary.
Use a ratchet, swivel adapter, extension, swivel socket.
What else, ? Not difficult, not rocket science, just a little long way around. You just do what's necessary.
Oh yea, can be done
C'mon, you can do it!

Ha :0). Yiu make it all sound so easy . So since you have done this before. And just to be clear (so I don t go in the wrong way ). Did you (after moving wires ). I am guessing come straight down on that bolt ? Not from the tail pipe side ( I m sitting at dining rioom table. Not at tractor as I type this ) as I recall , besides the wires , the hydroleck power rod is also there on tail pipe side ). So which way did you go in from. And I ll. Copy your approach :0).

Thanks all !.. it took removing this and that. And bunch of wires.. but..... but finaly got those nuts out !:0).
Now just waiting for the mailman and the new fuse holder ...

:0). Thanks all..

Now while i am at it.. what more can you tell me .. about that COIL and light switch.. besides cleaning it.. anything else i need to know to make sure it is working properly. [i always wondered what that coil was for previously]

The coil is a resistor for the "dim" setting of the lights.

How do you know if it works? Turn the lights on. If the lights come on, it works. Should be off, dim, bright for the three positions of the switch.

Ha. I love your reply. ;0). To know if it works. Turn it on :0) yeh it worked. I am not at tractor as I type this. I believe it has a 4th position. Ie. Off. Dim. Bright. And then I think another one. For either the reverse rear lite. Which I haven t looked at yet. And maybe for the red light that goes on the left fender. The wiring is all there for that but the lite fixture is long gone it seems . Thanks

No "[i:b7da0e3060][b:b7da0e3060]off[/b:b7da0e3060][/i:b7da0e3060]" on a 4 position switch

[u:b7da0e3060]First position = Low charge[/u:b7da0e3060]. This would be your normal operating position, without lights. The field ground of the generator goes through a second resistor, on the lower portion of the switch.

[u:b7da0e3060]Second position = High charge[/u:b7da0e3060]. This can be used directly after starting, 10 -- 15 minutes, as the starter uses a lot of battery current. This would help bring the battery back. The field ground by-passes the resistor and is fully grounded. Do not run in this position constantly, without lights on, or some other battery use. The generator will get really hot after a bit, as it will be putting out all the amperage it can. I've seen folks melt the solder in the generator running full ground constantly.

[u:b7da0e3060]Third position = Dim headlights[/u:b7da0e3060]. Charging level is high.

[u:b7da0e3060]Fourth position = Bright headlights[/u:b7da0e3060]. Again with high charge.

You know, "Bright" and "Dim "on a 6 volt system is relative. Headlights are more like Dim and Dimmer :)

His tractor is a '66. The original light switch had 4 positions, off and dim then two bright positions that selected either the rear work light or rear red light.

Doh .....
Thanks for clearing that up Jim
